The Arab region is not exempted from profound challenges just like other nations. The programm on good land governance is an initiative created to support inclusive development, peace and stability in Arab regions.
A group of Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) Partners led by UN-Habitat and the World Bank convened the ‘Expert Group Meeting on Fostering Good Land Governance in the Arab States’ in Amman, Jordan. The meeting launched the land governance in the Arab Region initiative.
The Global Land Tool Network in collaboration with the UN-Habitat,designed the program to increase substantial growth in the management of land, peri-urban and rural land, to achieve inclusive social and economic development.
The goal of the program is to support and motivates future academic and professional leaders in the field of land governance to help hinder further descent into chaotic land-related issues. The initiative is focused on resolving deep societal issues rooted in land.
Basically its a much needed action taken after the realization that the way land is accessed, used and controlled is a key element of sustainable social and economic development, peace and stability, and realization of human rights.
Women in the Arab region (especially those affected by conflict, displacement and migration) are widely acknowledged to be lagging behind in their access to land and property rights. The Arab Land Governance Initiative seeks to increase women’s access to land management and land-related affairs.
There’s the possibility of selected candidates being sponsored to attend elevant international conferences to present their research results; e.g. the World Bank Conference on Land and Poverty, or the Second Arab Land Conference, etc…
