Fully-funded Scholarships for Outstanding Students from Sub-Saharan African Countries in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Sciences Po 2020-2021

If you happen to be a Sub-Saharan African Student, sign up for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Sciences Po to be one of 126 talented African students that will be getting through their studies with the support of the program. 

The scholarships will help awardees who face financial and other barriers to higher education, pursue their studies for a period of three years for the Bachelor’s degree, two years for the Master’s degree and one month for the Summer School.

For all selected Scholars, Science po will cover:

  • The full cost of tuition fees at Sciences Po. 
  • Living costs in France during the study period.

In addition to funding their studies, Sciences Po will offer scholars an array of resources to ensure appropriate academic support and facilitate their transition from education to employment:

  • An orientation program and individualized academic advising throughout their studies at Sciences Po. 
  • A mentor program offered in collaboration with the Africa Division of Sciences Po Alumni  
  • Career guidance and support


To qualify for the scholarship, applicants have to be 

  • Nationals of Sub-Saharan African Countries. 
  • At least 18 years old by the time of application.

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars is an initiative by one of the world’s largest private foundations, with a mission to ensure an all-inclusive education, and promote financial inclusion in order to forge an equitable world.

The scholarships are awarded to outstanding students from sub-Saharan African countries with an exceptional academic record and strong leadership potential, but who face financial and other constraints to higher education.  

The Mastercard Foundation works with mutual-minded organizations to provide higher access to education, training and financial services for economically disadvantaged people, primarily in Africa.

Key Dates and Order of Program

The application deadlines for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarships for the year 2020-21 are:

Master’s: November 25, 2020

Apply for your master before December 6, 2020. 

Summer School: January 31, 2021

Apply to the Sciences Po Summer School before February 28, 2021.

The Scholarships will be awarded in partnership with a network of partner institutions accepting the terms and conditions of the nomination framework.
