Get up to €50,000 Grant for Young Nature Conservationists in the Future For Nature (FFN) Awards 2021

For passionate conservationists with a commitment to the natural world, apply now for the 2021 Future For Nature Awards to join a community of like-minded conservationists. 

Three outstanding nature conservationists will be awarded grant funding to actualize their projects.

Benefits The 3 Winners of the Future For Nature Awards will each receive:

  • Grant funding of €50,000 for their nature conservation project
  • International exposure and recognition for their work
  • The handcrafted FFN Award during the annual ceremony in the Netherlands
  • Access to the FFN network of young nature conservationists
  • Invitation to present their work at the Future For Nature Award event in the NetherlandsThe Future will cover. The Future For Nature Foundation will cover travel and accommodation expenses.


To be eligible to apply, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be born between the 31st of May 1985 and the 31st of May 2002.
  • Applicants must have accomplished tangible and long-term benefits to the conservation status of one or more animal or plant species.
  • Applicants must have shown dedication and ardent passion for conservation work.
  • Applicants must have displayed leadership, entrepreneurship, and a clear view of conservation work.
  • Applicants must have been creative and innovative in his/her work.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated honor in the conservation work performed.
  • Applicants must be determined to continue his/her conservation work, as the Award aims to stimulate the winner’s future work. It is not an “end of career” prize.
  • Applicants must be able to explain his/her conservation work in fluent written and oral English. 


  • The award should be used for a conservation initiative of the winner’s choice and implemented by him/her.
  • The award must be used for the conservation of animal or plant species. 
  • Future For Nature will not allow administrative deductions to be made or claimed by mother organizations.

About the Future for Nature Awards

The Future For Nature Award is an international award that honors accomplishments in protecting wild animals and plant species.

The Future For Nature Foundation seeks to support, fund, and promote individuals for their outstanding efforts in the protection of species of wild animals and plants. 

The award enables winners to sustain their dedicated work, raise their profile, extend their professional network, and strengthen their funding basis. 

Previous winners are also granted an extra stage via the Future For Nature Academy, an independently functioning committee active in several Dutch cities.

Key Dates and Order of Program

The application deadline is the 15th of September 2020.

All eligible applications will be sent to the National Selection Committee (NSC) by the FFN office. 

The NSC will assess the applications of which 6 to 10 candidate nominees will be shortlisted.

Afterward, nominees will be requested to provide further information (written information, photos, video, extended reference statements). These details will be forwarded to the International Selection Committee (ISC). Each ISC member scores the candidates and gives a qualitative evaluation. 

Based on averaging the results of the ISC members, the FFN Office ranks the candidates.

Finally, the Board will decide on the top three candidates being eligible as a winner of the Future For Nature Award. 

Selection Criteria for candidates include:

  • The nature conservation outcomes
  • Impacts of species protection efforts
  • A good track record in species protection and scientific research.

Winners will present their work at the Future For Nature Award event at Royal Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The event will take place in May 2021.
