Spanning across two categories and with no restrictions on identity or any other characteristic protected by law, all candidates must be based outside the United States.
The program will offer the same pay rate to each fellow as they received in their home institutions.

For Postdoctoral Scholars: Eligible postdoctoral scholars-
The receipt of the Ph.D. is determined by the date on which all requirements for the degree at the applicant’s home institution, including the defense and filing of the dissertation, were fulfilled.
If a candidate has turned in a final draft of their dissertation but not yet completed their Ph.D. before the start date, they may be temporarily appointed as a Senior Research Assistant with a 10% reduction in salary. Upon providing verification that they have completed all requirements for the Ph.D., they would then be promoted in rank and salary.
For Early-Career Scholars: Eligible Early-career scholars
The program will pay for the most economical means of transportation for one round trip for the Fellow, spouse, partner and children from and to his or her home institution.

For applicants with a faculty appointment or a professional research appointment, an official letter from the applicant’s current employer affirming that, should an offer be made, the applicant would be permitted to accept it and to spend the academic year at Princeton University.
Annually, the Fung Global Fellows program chooses scholars from around the world to be in residence at Princeton for an academic year to undertake research and discussion around a common topic.
For this edition of the program, candidates will be considered in two categories:

Fellowships will last for the entire academic year, from September 2021 to June 2022.
The number of candidates shortlisted will depend on the qualifications of the overall applicant pools.
Fellowships will be awarded to candidates who have already demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement and exhibit unusual intellectual promise but are still at the beginning of their careers.

Due to COVID-related health and travel laws, the University policy will restrict a physical presence on campus and Fellows may be required to work virtually from their home location.
Should restrictions be lifted, then Fellows would be required to be in residence at the Princeton University or the local vicinity.
